How to use the Voicethread?

With VoiceThread, group conversations are collected and shared in one place from anywhere in the world. All with no software to install.

A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate pages and leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too.

Users can doodle while commenting, use multiple identities, and pick which comments are shown through moderation. VoiceThreads can even be embedded to show and receive comments on other websites and exported to MP3 players or DVDs to play as archival movies.
VoiceThread supports dozens of standard file formats. Whether it's home videos, business presentations, or vacation photos, VoiceThread is ready for your multimedia and the conversations they will inspire.

VoiceThread supports PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (including Office 2007 formats), images, and videos. Store your photos someplace else? VoiceThread even imports photos from Flickr, Facebook, or the web.

VoiceThread makes embedding easy, allowing you to add interactive group discussions to any website. Simply copy and paste the embed code to your website and let the conversations begin. Whether it's feedback, critique, or group story-telling, collect it how, when, and where you want.

VoiceThread's Comment Moderation allows VoiceThread creators and editors to pick which comments are shown to everyone else. So, an editor can easily choose the best 5comments out of a selection of 100 and turn an epic novel into a succinct short story.

VoiceThreads security comes in many forms, from private to public, and anywhere in between. Simple security settings allow creators to choose what the VoiceThread viewers can do. You can change these settings as often as you like.

You can also easily create Groups of your friends, colleagues, or those you have common interests with, and have the Group's VoiceThreads shared and shown in one place (on your MyVoice page).

  1. First of all, this method has been really beyond my imagination. it is a fantastic method technically when it is considered a method for world wide range however, it seems so complicated for many people.
In my opinion, it fits for college or university students, but in advanced levels, due to its function. for a beginner people all around the world it makes no sense.
on the other hand, this is very practical for the universal classes in which learners of English come together from different countries. this method can be encouraging for motivationof the learners in order to draw their attention, for the ambition they have to make them improve. still it is too difficult to apply it to the system in Turkey..

  2. This method is really good if we have this kind of technology but it is also very hard to apply in classrooms in Turkey. We don't have so much sophisticated classes and enough students to continue the lesson. In the other hand, if we have this technology, then I think that we can do the job perfectly, it is beneficial in almost every aspects of teaching reading, speaking.. like making comments, sharing ideas..

  3. I think VoiceThread is such a collaborative, interesting and beneficial method that progressive teachers can use the method easily in their teachings. Because it requires no software and has wide range of formats such as PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, it is not so challenging to use it. On the contrary, it enables many facilities to both teachers and students for archiving previous learnings or conducting some discussions on the web. For these reasons, the method is more appropriate for higher-leveled students as it requires a certain level of knowledge to do tasks properly.
However, no matter how creative and interesting the method is, it is not so applicable in Turkey as schools do not have enough technology to utilize the method in the classroom environment.

  4. In my opinion the use of Voicethreads is a very useful way of sharing information and comments. If a teacher achieves to make students use voicethreads successfully, it will be great both for the students and the teacher because using them in teaching English has advantages both for the teacher and the students. For instance, as they are easy to use, neither the teacher nor the students will have difficulty in using them. Also with the help of voicethreads the teacher and the students can collect their materials and keep them for later usages. Besides, the teacher can ask students to comment on the materials in a voicethread without giving their real names and in this way the students can improve their writing, reading and speaking skills by writing or voicing their comments. Since they won’t have to give their real names, they can tell their ideas without being afraid of the teacher for their grades. I think this will make students feel comfortable and so their participation to the discussions will be higher. In addition to this, as the teacher will have a right to decide which comments will be shown, they can prevent the comments that are not suitable to be shown. Another usage of voicethreads may be the students in two different countries can share their ideas by forming discussion groups. In this way they can improve their speaking skills by speaking native speakers of English. The last and maybe the most significant benefit of voicethreads is that they prevent students to get bored and they keep students occupied. To conclude we can say that voicethreads have a great number of benefits and so they can be used in almost every area of English language teaching. However in the schools that don’t have any technological equipment, unfortunately using voicethreads will be only a dream…

  5. It is like wikis in the way that participants do not need to be in the same room at the same time. It also appealed my attention because I am interested in multiple intelligences and this is the thing for MI. There is a phone option, web-cam, presentation, drawing, pictures, etc. To make your point, you have all the things you might need and it is certain that you won't fail in making yourself understood.
They also have solutions for the safety dilemma from which most of the people suffer. It is a very beneficial, multi-layered and magical thing. Interaction, discussions and comments are the best ways one can learn and practice.

  6. I find Voicethread really interesting and useful. It is marvellous that it is a worldwide thing. Knowledge about a subject can be collected by the opinions of people who are from all over the world. We are also doing such things like VoiceThread, but ours are limited. They are generally shared among the studets of our section or our department. Taking everyone's opinions about a subject from all over the world is really fantastic. There would be a lot of perspective and it would create very different and ordinary ideas

  7. the voicetread is very interesting and creative, ı think it could be used in many areas for high level students.we could comment on something, we can share our ideas with voicethread. for example, we could not have a chance to go to the abroad, but we can speak with the foreign students and develop ourselves by communicating with them in a universal environment. There is a phone option, web-cam, presentation, drawing, pictures and we can use all of them and each of them are interesting and benefical.we can improve their writing, reading and speaking skills by writing or voicing their comments.
also with this method, students will get interested to the lesson and they will not get bored, this will attract them, so they will be able to understand the lessom by the help of voicethread.

  8. The voicethread is a device, on which you can hols images, documents and videos. It combines technology with comments, because with the help of a voicethread people from all over the world share videos, files, images and all sort of online resources. It is very enjoyable to chat with people on a subject you completely like. It is possible to comment on an item using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Therefore it is a good learning environment, students may actively take part. As a prospective teacher, I am thinking of using voicethread if my students have the technology to use the program, because they can easily comment on an issue via this tool in an enjoyable and creative way. I think the best thing about the program is that students are free to comment on everything and they have the devices to express themselves in a good way.

  9. It is a fantastic method and it is clearly shows us that e-learning will be tool of our education. It is also enjoyable and creates authentic learning environment with technology. High level students can easily use it. However Turkey isn't a developed country and we will encounter some problems with using it in Turkey.

  10. To me it is an interesting and beyond my imagination. It is a very good way of sharing ideas or information. It seems similar to wikis but I think wikis are easier to use and applicable in a classroom. And some students may find it enjoyable and if they enjoy it, they will work with it, and the more they worked/studied, the more they will be successful. This method needs an improved technology. I cannot think such a system in turkey as we don’t have enough technology, but I think in near future it can be applied in classrooms in our university, why not?
